Crime TV Series Shoots Sunset Park

 

If you were walking on 5th Avenue around 51st street earlier today you may have seen lots of film crew trucks parked on on side of the avenue for several blocks. They were shooting a tv show apparently called Crime in the neighborhood. Since I am not a tv watcher I have no clue who they are. I hope though they put the neighborhood in a good eye. This is just the latest of many shows and movies that have been shot in the neighborhood. If anyone can comment on the nature of this show all comments are welcome below.

Rooftop Underground Films in Brooklyn

So, I go into this coffee shop in the Greenwood heights section of Sunset Park The Tin Cup Cafe and pick up this card about some film showings in Brooklyn under the stars. I figured I would check out their website at rooftopfilms.com and I noticed that some of the films are showing at Industry City in Sunset Park. Apparently the films started showing back in May but they're running on through until August. The showings are NOT FREE. The website says tickets are $13. Besides Sunset Park showings are being staged in other neighborhoods as well, Gowanus, Park Slope, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene and Williamsburg as well as locations in Queens and Manhattan. If you're into this sort of thing it may well be worth your time to investigate and perhaps go to one or two or three etc....

Making movies in the Hood: Person of Interest Season 3

New York City has become Hollywood East and a lot of stuff is being shot on the PASUBA (park slope, sunset, bay ridge) strip which runs along 4th and 5th avenues. This morning I stumbled on a crew shooting scenes for season 3 of a tv program entitled "A Person of Interest'. Not being a boob tube watcher I have no clue what it is. There have been quite a few films shot in Sunset and the adjoining neighborhoods. The last one I can think of off the top of my head was "Cop Out". And most people forget that epic with Travolta "Saturday Night Fever" was partially shot in Sunset Park as well. Anyway it's good to see the industry moving in. BTW, how many people know that there are film and television studios located on the other side of third avenue?

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle does Cop Out

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle did a review of COP OUT the film that was filmed here in Bay Ridge (mostly in Bay Ridge), Sunset Park and Park Slope. For people in the nabe watching the film will also give them an opportunity to see scenes of the are play as background and will be recognizable to many. Don't be a cheapskate, don't wait for it to come out on DVD or blueray, get your butts to a movie theater right now.


The New York Times also did a review of the film, but barely mentions it was filmed in Brooklyn, much less the nabe. Spumoni Gardens in Bay Ridge gets a mention in the review.

Cop Out The movie is coming out on February 26

The ads are already out for COP OUT the movie which was shot in and around Bay Ridge (mostly in Bay Ridge), Sunset Park and Park Slope. The movie was originally tentatively titled "A Couple of Dicks" but I suppose the connotations of the title made them change it. The movie starting Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan made a splash during filming up in Bay Ridge as Third Avenue was blocked for a couple of days while they were filming outdoor scenes.
Some of the scenes for the movie were shot inside our very own (located in the mall in our website). Piramide Reastaurant which is in Park Slope just over the border. It should be interesting to see which scenes of our nabes we will recognize when we see the movie. I will certainly recognize Piramide since I shot the interior for the website. The letter below is from the producers of the movie to the owners.





The owner of Piramide Restaurant Geraldine Viggiano and actress Ana de la Reguera who also starred in the film.
