Chinese New Year is on it's way, Get Ready!

February 7th is Chinese New Year and it seems that some of the stores along 8th Avenue are already getting ready. Displaying their wares on the windows and hanging fireworks streams.

The following shots I took at last year's celebration. Chinese New Year is a very colorful all day celebration worth watching. Expect this year's to be even bigger than the celebrations last year and weather permitting to encompass the entire length of 8th Avenue. Bring your cameras boys and girls.

Frank,
I love the blog. Do you have any details about the celebration this year? Time, etc?
Thanks,
Mark

Not yet, the actual festivities are usualy organized by the Brooklyn Chinese Association normally on the following Sunday at the corner of 8th Ave. and 50th street. As soon as the fliers come up I will post the dates and times. You can call them to keep abreast at 718.438.9312

The Lion dancers from different martial arts schools will definitely start appearing on the avenue starting on the 7th.

BTW we will be ending the current year of the pig and the next year according to Chinese astrology will be the year of the rat.

Frank, thanks for the info. Yeah, we're pretty up on the Chinese New Year. We adopted a little girl from China and we like to expose her to the culture of her country.
